The first time you ride a Parlee Chebacco, you might think that Parlee is trying to put itself out of business since you will feel like youÕll never need or want another bike. The Chebacco is a bit of a departure for the Massachusetts-based company, not in terms of quality, but rather of focus. This is a bike that is made for the mud and for adventure. Parlee has designed it, though so that you can use it for all your cyclocross, gravel grinding, Gran Fondo riding needs. And depending on your choice of tires, you can certainly count on this to be as snappy on the road as any rim-braked racing bike.
The frame is made from the same high modulus carbon that Parlee uses for their top line racers, but they have tweaked the geometry to accommodate the different applications that this bike will invite. The compact geometry with a slacker head tube angle will help you find a position comfortable for long days in the saddle while the bottom bracket has been lowered relative to a usual cross bike to give the bike a lower center of gravity which will help when you are negotiating long, unknown descents. And to make it easier for you to adjust your positions, either raising or lowering the stack height, the Chebacco features a Flex Fit top cap system that allows for a wide range of stack adjustment. The press fit 30 bottom bracket will give you a wide choice of crank mating options. The internal cabling will allow for Di2/EPS and mechanical groupsets with quick easy access using the replaceable clip-in stops. The carbon dropouts work both with a Modular 142x12mm through axle or 135x9mm quick release. The frame also comes with a replaceable hanger, which is something youÕll only learn to appreciate after airport baggage handlers snap off one of your non-removable/replaceable derailleur hangers while inelegantly inspecting your delicately packed bike. The frame has been designed to accept post mount disc brakes with both 140mm rotors and 160mm, and is internally routed.
Since this is really intended to be useful on lots of different sorts of gravelly terrain, you probably expect it to have mega tire clearance. Well, you wonÕt be disappointed. You can easily slam some 40mm wide tires on this baby and still make use of the mudguard fender mounts to help keep your rear-end and shoes from becoming a soggy, muddy mess. WhatÕs the point of a gravel grinder if you can only fit 28mms on the frames, right? Go with cross-style 33mm, or hep-it-up with some gravel-focused 40mm tires. For the fork, Parlee uses their XD fork with a tapered steerer tube to provide stability, rigidity, and vertical compliance, while the 15mm through axle will give you the confidence to slam on the brakes when necessary. The fork weighs 390 grams while the frame itself will come in between 870 and 980 grams, depending on size.
