Specialized Bicycle Components, commonly referred to as Specialized was founded in Morgan Hill California by Mike Sinyard an aviation major. The company initially imported Cinelli parts from Italy to the U.S.A in the years following 1974, before entering manufacturing themselves in 1976, with the first product in their line being the Specialized Touring Tyre.

Known specifically for their designing of bicycles, they began in 1979 with the Allez, a road bike, and the Sequoia, a sport touring bike. Soon after, Specialized started forging its name in the cycling industry being the first company to mass produce the mountain bike, introducing the Stumpjumer in 1981 which along with the Allez still remains in the range to this day albeit a few advancements in the years since.

Specialized Range of Products

Since the 1980’s Specialized continued to diversify and progress with their cycling products. Along with bikes, Specialized provide a massive range of accessories, clothing, shoes, helmets, and components, creating a total ride package under one name, giving greater accessibility to riders.


S-Works originates from Specialized’s desire to meet the demands of the professionals. With the best athletes in the world involved in product design and the best facilities including the worlds only ‘Win Tunnel’ (Specialized have its own wind tunnel) you can be assured that the product offering from S-Works is both the fastest and the best that Specialized offer. Not only producing bikes, the S-Works department make cutting edge shoes, helmets, saddles, components and accessories.

Specialized Sponsorship

Specialized has been quite a prominent sponsor of athletes in cycling, having been associated with some of the biggest names in the sport in both Australia and abroad. The connections that Specialized has made with these athletes has enabled them to develop their product line continually, and thus making these advancements available at the consumer level through the input of the worlds best in road, mountain bike and triathlon disciplines.

In 2016 Specialized is represented by no less than three World Tour teams, these being Astana Pro Team, Etixx-Quickstep and Tinkoff, all three using the S-Works range of products. Collecting numerous amounts of victories most notably to several stage wins and the coveted green jersey in the 2016 Tour de France with Peter Sagan.
